The Alzheimer’s Association Funded Our Research

The Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research, has awarded the Molecular Neurology Unit a $ 750.000 research grant. Only 23 research proposals have been awarded worldwide.

The 3-year study is set to investigate the effects of zinc supplementation in a cohort of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) individuals showing altered levels of copper in the blood.

The project will be jointly conducted by the Molecular Neurology Lab (lead by Stefano L. Sensi), the IRCSS “Centro San Giovanni di Dio” (Rosanna Squitti), the Neurology Unit of the Fatebenefratelli Hospital (Emanuele Cassetta), the Humanitas IRCSS (Alberto Albanese), and the Neurology Unit of the University of Brescia (Barbara Borroni).
